Day 6 of the smoothie challenge! We’ve come pretty far haven’t we? We hope you have enjoyed your smoothies daily and feel a change in your energy, your nutrition and in general your wellbeing. Today’s secret ingredient we have used before in recipes, but today’s smoothie is amazing, if you like sweets. Raw beets! Beets are high in Vitamin C, Folate, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese, plus they provide good amount of sodium, zinc, and copper. Many of you might have heard about beets being to sweet, reason why many don’t eat them.
“If it’s sweet, it is sugar, and if it’s sugar it makes me fat”.
Ok let’s point out a fact, beets have ONLY 5 grams of sugar in a 100g portion…while bananas have 12 g in the same portion. So yeah they both have sugar, but it occurs naturally and in proportion to vitamins an minerals is just as small amount. So the concept about fruits and veggies being high in sugar thus being responsible for us gaining weight, is just false!
Super Sweet Smoothie -(Serves 1 Big glass)
1/4 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of pineapples
1/2 Medium size raw beet
1. Peel the beet and add all the ingredients into the blender. Feel free to start off with a smaller portion of beet and add until you really enjoy the flavor. Watch out, a big portion might ruin your smoothie because beets taste pretty strong.
