Starting off with the Live Life Smoothie challenge we would like to invite you to use your imagination. We will be posting recipes for the 7 days, but if you don’t happen to have the ingredients feel welcome to use anything you have at home! Just let us know your recipe when you upload your picture :)

Today’s mix combines 2 fruits and a little bit of healthy fats.

Blueberries are commonly known for being high in antioxidants. It has been believed that anthocyanins, the pigment that gives blueberries their color is the responsible for this characteristic, yet it has not been proven that once the blueberry is digested it does have antioxidant effects. Still blueberries carry only 57 calories in 100 g, they are rich in Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Copper, Zinc, Vitamin B6 and Folate. Other studies have shown the benefits on eating blueberries for brain improvement, including an increase in memory.

After that, who doesn’t want a little bit of blueberries to start off the day with a good memory?

Blueberry – Almond Smoothie (Serves 1)

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds (if you just have whole almonds, no problem)
  • 1/3 cup soy milk (or any non dairy milk)

Directions

1. Add all the ingredients into your blender, until smooth, and serve. If you like a more liquid consistency feel free to add more soy milk or water. Remember smoothies DO NOT go through strainers, there’s where the benefit comes from.
